Ms. April McCutcheon

April McCutcheon is a lifelong resident of Madison County and a Buckhorn alum; she feels blessed to work in this incredible, growing and diverse community. Having worked in North Alabama for 20 plus years, life experience afforded her the background and understanding to give Riverton Intermediate the stability it has been craving. Her goal is to move the intermediate school forward, creating a positive, safe, engaging learning environment for students. She believes that each child deserves the best education, passionate advocates, and a tight-knit community to become successful and productive citizens.

As a graduate of Lee University, Auburn University, and the CLAS Leaders of Alabama Certified Instructional Leader Program, she is grounded in best practices and research. She is a lifelong learner and supporter of student-centered learning. Her administrative background includes six years as Buckhorn Middle’s principal and six years as Buckhorn High assistant principal. In November 2021, she was Alabama’s District 8 Middle School Principal of the Year and a state finalist for AAMSP Secondary Principal of the Year. During her time as principal at Buckhorn Middle School, the school was named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and a Solution Tree Model Professional Learning Community School. Prior to serving as an administrator, she was a classroom teacher and coach in Madison County and Huntsville City. She had the satisfaction of teaching and coaching at a variety of levels, from seventh to twelfth grade and still considers herself a teacher above all else!
